Go with the Flow...No! Go with your Flow.
Time…
We spend the majority of our time locking ourselves into busy routines and even when we are not busy, we find ways to fill our time with useless activities. We then get really surprised when our body and mind start getting sick and shutting down. We heal…and then get back to our busy routine. We think we don’t have a choice, we think we have no control over the flow our lives. Well, I am here to tell you – you do!
Reflection…
Whether you have kids, a full time job or responsibilities to others, you can still find time to feel the flow within you. Going with your flow is not about dropping everything, it’s about slowing down, taking a breath and acknowledging where you’re at and how you feel. Having a few minutes a day to talk out loud to yourself or to your higher power can have major positive effects on your nervous system, allowing relaxation and re-evaluation of what’s really important to you.
Balance…
Going with the flow is also about striking a balance between making things happen and letting things be. I used to be a bit obsessed with ‘being constructive’ with my days – filling it with chores, spring cleaning and getting ‘order’ in my life. Yes, these days are important but I don’t need to ‘be constructive’ every day. Sometimes ‘being constructive’ can be destructive as my deeper needs do not get met. Deeper needs being the need to relax, do something physical or socialize. As a Freelancer, I have had to re-structure my time as my own and not somebody else’s (i.e. a company). This has been hard as I have had a lot of time to breathe and envision what next? I have also taken on a bigger responsibility of working smart, as opposed to hard, in order to balance my financial needs with other needs. I sometimes feel guilty if I am not 'planning' or 'doing' but I have learned that sometimes ‘just being’ is as important.
Trust…
Finding your natural rhythm can create more flow in your life. This involves trust, trusting that your rhythm won’t always be slow and trusting that you can step back from the ‘busy-ness’ when your rhythm is changing. This involves relinquishing control to a degree – the mind steps back and the body and heart lead, ultimately creating a healthier mind set.
Go with your flow…
Believe it or not, going with your flow tunes you into the natural flow of the universe. It leads you closer towards yourself and essentially contributes towards a healthier planet where Mother Nature and human nature is aligned. Right now the planet is suffering because of humans ‘forcing things’: forcing more infrastructure, forcing more produce, creating more muck. Stepping back and finding your flow is a bigger gesture than you might imagine. It’s a socio-political act where you refuse to buy into a lifestyle that is unnatural to your psyche and body. So I leave you with these questions: What are you forcing in your life? How can you stop and re-connect with yourself? Where can you allow more flow into your life? What is your natural flow?
